I have been sick for the past seven years. Initally, I ran a low grade fever around 99.0-99.5 with chronic sinus infections and a sore throat that I couldn't get rid of despite about 10 rounds of antibiotics. I had a sinus surgery in that time (did not do anything) and then had my tonsils out. After the tonsils came out, I was pretty healthy for about six months, got pregnant, and had my first son. Immediately after he was born, I started getting sick again. Infection in my fingernail beds after he was born, mastitis literally 10 times (always responded to antibiotics well though), yeast issues, on and off sinus infections, etc. I would say I was sick about 25% of his first two years, but not constantly. Then I started running a fever and had a sore throat once again for another year and a half straight. In that time, I had a positive ANA of 1:1280 and was told I probably had lupus...which I do not according to my rheumatologist. I did however develop psoriasis and reynauds after his birth. 18 months after the whole fever and sore throat thing started again (I had bronchitis once in this time too) I got the stomach flu, a high fever, and suddenly my sore throats were gone, even though again several rounds of antibiotics had temporarily cleared the infection only for it to return. My lymph nodes were swollen the whole time too. So, with the fever and sore throat gone, I got pregnant again. A few weeks into the pregnancy, I got sick again and pretty much spent the entire pregnancy sick with antibiotics either working temporarily or not at all. I went into preterm labor and was given IV antibiotics since my GBS test hadn't been done yet. That kicked my sore throat for three full months. Within days of my second son being born, I ended up with mastitis again and this weird infection in my finger nail beds like I had with my first. Again yeast as well. My son is six weeks old, and now my sore throat is back too, I have another sinus infection as well. My breastmilk is being cultured and I'm waiting for the results and my MD thinks I have staph in the milk ducts.
I am so tired of being sick all of the time. I have felt terrible and run fevers over half the time for the past seven years. I am so worried I am not going to be able to raise my kids. I have yet to have a diagnosis despite seeing two rheumatologists, three infectious disease doctors, two ENTs, etc. I get blown off all the time because "a fever is over 100.4" and my throat doesn't look infected. Before I had my tonsils out, I saw several ENTS who all said there was no inflamation. When they finally took my tonsils out though, they were filled with pus. I guess I just don't get very red and inflamed. My temperature is normally a little low when I'm healthy.
Anyhow, I am just wondering what you all think. I have had my igg, iga, and igm tested and supposedly they were normal. I am very suspicious that I have an igg subclass deficiency going on, but am wondering if I am "sick enough" for that to be the case. I will respond to antibiotics if they are strong enough for my throat (IV) but it comes back. I can usually get rid of sinus infections with salt water and mastitis responds to antibiotics for me, but my finger infection doesn't respond and my throat issues are just chronic despite having my tonsils out. I am lost and hoping for some ideas or support for how to proceed.... Any suggestions for doctors in Wisconsin?
