Hi All,
so I am in my new job now and was ready to sign up for benefits and all excited b/c the out of pocket max on Blue Cross/Blue Shield (Anthem here in CO) was just $1,000. But I was very careful to read the fine print (thankfully!). Turns out SCIG/IVIG are covered as prescriptions under the plan, and subject to the max $250/mo copay with no out of pocket max. So this would have been $3,000 per year with none of it going toward deductables or out of pocket max on the medical side of things.
So I am now just on my husband's CIGNA plan with the same $2,000 out of pocket max I had on my old insurance. Since they were my secondary insurance all along, I have already met my out of pocket max for the year with them and won't pay anything more for my Gamunex this year. My husband's insurance does have a $1M lifetime max, but Obamacare may fix that anyway....I'm sure I would eventually tap out a $1M max policy with all of my diagnoses/treatments. But then who among us stays at jobs that long any more anyway?
Buyer beware on insurance!! Let's hope this is not the future of all insurance plans....
Thiathy
